A care home has taken a 94-year-old resident out to sea to recreate photos originally taken 45 years ago.
Kay Stevenson-Bromley now spends her days at Falmouth Court Care Home, but the London-born woman spent her younger years sailing around the world.
After moving into care six months ago, the team were keen to make sure she felt welcome, and after hearing her greatest dream – to return to the seas once more – knew they had to put it into action.
Haley Reeve-Larson, General Manager at the home, arranged to charter a yacht to take Kay and two other residents, Gerry Stock and Pat Brown, out into Falmouth Bay.
They headed out over the weekend (24 June) to mark Falmouth Armed Forces Day in honour of Kay previously serving as a dental Wren in the Navy.
Staff members decided to recreate a favourite picture of Kay’s, taken 45 years ago when she was in her 40s, showing her posing on the bow of a yacht wearing a stripey T-shirt.
To recapture the moment, Kay dressed in a similar stripey top and posed in an identical position, nearly five decades later.
In response to the wonderful surprise, Kay said: “It was such an amazing day.
“The team helping me to recreate my picture from my earlier years was such fun and something I will treasure.
“It is such an amazing feeling to know that such a loving group of people care so much about me that they helped me to live out a dream – and I didn’t even ask.”
The team had been determined to help realise Kay’s dream of returning to the water to prove that “it’s never too late”.

Haley Reeve-Larson said: “We believe that every moment is worth cherishing.
“We want everyone we care for to know how important they are to us here at Falmouth Court.
“It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team here in making our residents’ dreams come true.
“It was wonderful to see how happy Kay, Pat and Gerry were – and the staff loved being a part of this as well.”
