The Gulf Cartel is one of Mexico’s oldest and most powerful criminal organisations, based in the state of Tamaulipas.
The gang is involved in drug trafficking, extortion, kidnapping, and other organised crime along the US-Mexico border.
The shootout last Friday (7 Nov) unfolded as Tamaulipas State Guard officers patrolled a dirt road in Reynosa.

They spotted a pickup truck reported stolen abroad, but when they tried to stop it, the occupants opened fire.
Officers returned fire and gave chase, forcing the vehicle to crash into a lamppost.
After neutralising the four men and lone woman inside, they seized a bucket containing 40 metal tyre spikes, four tactical vests, four radios, 39 magazines, six long guns, and the vehicle itself.
No officers were injured, as reported by Need To Know.
La Chucky was reportedly one of the few women to openly operate within the Gulf Cartel.

On social media, she shared photos of her relationship and daily life – often posing with firearms or tactical gear.
Reports claim she was romantically linked to a suspected cartel leader and also served as a lookout for the gang.
In 2024 she was falsely reported dead after a clash between rival groups, and in 2019 she is said to have faked her own death to avoid capture before resurfacing online.
Her sister Nayeli, known as “La Chata”, died in 2011.
The Tamaulipas Security Spokesperson’s Office said: “All seized items were handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.”
