A 15-year-old dog has finally found her forever home six years after almost losing her life in a horrific machete attack.
Astra Milagros was discovered in June 2019 with severe injuries to her head and hind quarters.
She was rushed for treatment, where she arrived with her skull exposed.

Vets believed the gentle dog had been struck on the head with a machete.
After several surgeries, intensive treatment, and an incredible will to live, Astra defied all odds and made a full recovery.
She was given her second name, Milagros, meaning “Miracles,” in honour of her survival, as reported by Need To Know.

But despite her remarkable recovery, it took years for Astra to find a family willing to take her in, in Bogotá, Colombia.
Over the 2,321 days she spent at the centre, she watched hundreds of cats and dogs arrive in terrible shape and later leave happily with new families.
As the years passed, and despite campaigns sharing her story far and wide, hopes that she would find a loving home for her golden years began to fade.
Until the day finally arrived.
On Sunday (9 Nov), after being moved by Astra’s story, Sebastián and Catherine decided to welcome her into their family.

“I decided to adopt her because her story is a testament to resilience – it moved me deeply,” Sebastián said.
“She was a hard-to-adopt dog, and I wanted to give her a few good years of life.
“Now she’ll have a loyal friend, companionship and love every day, because she truly is a sweetheart.”
The District Institute for Animal Protection and Welfare said, “Stories like Astra Milagros inspire and motivate us to continue working with dedication for the most vulnerable animals.
“Strengthening our aim of building a more compassionate, supportive and respectful Bogotá for all sentient beings.”
