A young boy died from a snakebite while being carried for eight hours on foot in the search of help.

Arley Dominico was attacked by the serpent while playing in his village.

Army soldiers gave the youngster first aid and requested air support to take him to a hospital.

But it wasn’t possible to evacuate him from the area at that time.

Instead, villagers were tasked with carrying the boy to the nearest medical centre that could treat his snakebite.

Two men carried little Arley in a makeshift stretcher as they walked along a dirt track with at least two other people.

After setting off from the rural area of Urrao in Antioquia, Colombia, the group trekked for five hours.

They then hitched a lift for a further three hours before arriving at the hospital.

A medical team had been mobilised in preparation for the boy’s arrival.

However, little Arley – a member of the Majore Ambura indigenous community in the region – passed away before doctors could treat him.

The boy’s death has highlighted the difficulties many villagers have in remote areas in the country.

Antioquia governor Andrés Julián Rendón called for more donations for the completion of several highways in the department.

The campaign has already raised over £142,200 (COP 700 million) for new roads thanks to donations from citizens, as reported by Need to Know.

According to the University of the Andes in Colombia, there are around 320 species of snakes in the country with 53 considered venomous.
