Football legend Dunga ended up in hospital after flipping his car on the motorway.

The former Brazil player and coach was behind the wheel at the time of the accident on Saturday (13 Jul).

His wife, Evanir Miller da Silva Verri, was also in the car when it overturned and landed on its roof on the hard shoulder.

The couple’s car was heavily damaged in the accident, which took place at around 12:30pm.

A lorry driver gave the couple first aid on the BR-116 federal highway in Campina Grande do Sul, Brazil.

They were then taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, as reported on Need To Know.

The police breathalysed the couple and found them to be within the drink-drive limit.

Dunga, 60, and his wife were driving from São Paulo to Curitiba at the time.

The 1994 World Cup winner, whose real name is Carlos Caetano Bledorn Verri, was driving in heavy rain.

The stretch of road they were on is full of bends.

The former defensive midfielder and his wife were discharged from hospital yesterday (14 Jul) morning.

Fernando César Oliveira of the Federal Highway Police said: “The stretch is very winding, but many drivers do not adhere to the speed limit, which is 80 km/h (50 mph) for light vehicles and 60 km/h (37 mph) for heavy vehicles.

“With rain and wet roads, the risk of losing control on the bends and potentially rolling over increases because the central reservation is actually a slope.”
