A passenger tragically lost their life during a flight from Bulgaria to the UK, prompting an emergency landing, according to reports.
The Jet2-operated Boeing 737-800 was en route from Burgas to Liverpool when, approximately two hours into the journey, an urgent situation arose.
This led the pilots to divert the plane to Germany for an emergency landing.
The aircraft safely touched down in Cologne after making a rapid descent, flight tracking data shows. The unexpected landing occurred around 2:30 p.m. on 16 September.
Later that evening, the flight resumed its journey to Liverpool, arriving at around 10:20 p.m.
While the identity of the deceased passenger remains unknown, it is believed the individual suffered a cardiac arrest mid-flight.
Aviation website Airlive reported that the man received medical attention from the flight crew, as well as two passengers who had medical training, but sadly, he could not be revived.
In a statement, Jet2.com confirmed the incident, saying: “We can confirm that flight LS3214 from Bourgas to Liverpool John Lennon diverted to Cologne on Monday 16 September, due to a customer requiring medical assistance.
Regrettably, we can confirm that the customer sadly passed away. We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the customer’s family and friends at this very difficult time.”
The tragic event underscores the importance of quick action during in-flight medical emergencies, though unfortunately, this one had a devastating outcome.
