The 36-year-old looked on as the stranded trio stepped onto the fire rescue boat which returned them to safety.

The incident took place on 18 February.

According to eye witnesses the tide had caught the tourists out leaving them stranded on the river bank.

Joshua McSherry-Gray, from Hull, told Need To Know: “I was surprised to see a huge presence of emergency responders, police, firefighters and sirens everywhere.

“I saw three tourists stuck on the riverbank.

“There’s a set of steps leading down to the bed of the Thames when the tide is low, and it was clear the rising tide had trapped them.

“They couldn’t get back up to the street level because the water was coming in fast.

“You could feel a sense of panic as the tide quickly rose, and bystanders were gathering around.

“Thankfully the emergency responders acted fast, and their professionalism saved the tourists.

“The Thames is notoriously cold and dangerous, so it was critical that they responded as quickly as they did.”

Members of the public voiced their anger with the tourists.

Wilf stated: “What a waste of emergency services time.”
