A 17-year-old footballer was given a bottle of rum for his man-of-the-match performance, but he’s not old enough to buy it.

Hearts starlet James Wilson was presented with the club edition bottle of booze after the 3-1 win over St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.

The homegrown talent equalised in the 56th minute and helped his side claim all three points.

The match sponsor DK Consulting, rightly named Wilson as the man of the match.

The bottle was a 150th anniversary Heart of Midlothian Edition of Edinburgh Rum.

The £33.95 item can only be ordered or purchased by someone who is 18 or above.

Hearts FC website states: “This product is not for sale to people under the age of 18.

“Proof of age and a signature will be required on delivery.”

The match took place on 26 February, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Fans of the Edinburgh club were left shocked by the gift.

Matt said: “He’s got school in the morning, you can’t give him that.”

Craig added: “No even old enough to drink it.”

Another said: “He’s not even allowed to drink it.”

Kevin Scott said: “Is this promoting underage drinking?”

Jack stated: “Should of gave him a can of Irn-Bru.”

It is legal for 17-year-olds to drink in Scotland if consuming it with a meal but they can’t buy it themselves until they are a year older.

Wilson turns 18 next Thursday (6 Mar).
