Organisers at a peanut fair were left with no choice but to change their beloved mascot’s design after complaints the original costume looked like a penis.
The initial design for Minduca was revealed in 2019 to celebrate the International Peanut Fair, held in the municipality of Jaboticabal, São Paulo.
Regiane Alves, a journalist who worked on the organising committee, told local media that the problems began when it came to turning the cartoonish design into a physical costume.
Photos taken from behind show Minduca wearing a bandana standing at the fair – and what happened next got just a little bit nuts.
Photos of the rather bottom-heavy costume caught the attention of social media, with the post clocking up 7,300 likes.
“I’m crying laughing,” wrote one user.
“Glad [the peanuts weren’t] tasting of what the doll looks like,” wrote another.
A third Facebook user commented: “Is it just me seeing a d**k than a peanut.”
A fourth person added: “For the love of GOD lol.”
A fifth person said: “Ironic, right, peanuts are an aphrodisiac (and this one looks like a pistol hshshshs) omg.”
The unfortunate-looking peanut became the subject of dozens of meme’s online leading organisers to take action.
Pedro Luís Alves, president of the fair, told local media that the costume would be altered to look more like a peanut.
A new design has been unveiled with a more proportioned shape and hatch markings to look more like a shell.
