A surgeon and TikTok star has left viewers questioning the science behind a pair of yellow 18-year-old breast implants.
Dr Anthony Youn, a plastic surgeon and popular YouTuber, shares his experience and knowledge with his 8.1 million TikTok followers and regularly hits the headlines.
In one of his recent clips, which has gone viral with over 927,600 views, he revealed to his viewers a pair of 18-year-old breast implants that the doctor had recently removed, which had turned yellow.
Dr Youn explains how even though it’s true implants can break inside the body and create a “gooey, sticky” mess, most of the time, they stay completely intact – especially if less than 20 years old.
While he informs viewers the patient elected to switch out her old ones for a new pair, Dr Anthony had one final question.
He says: “Now, why do you think they turn a yellowish colour?” The post has racked up 927,600 views and over 100,000 likes so far, with users suggesting their answers to the big question.
“They couldn’t hold it anymore,” wrote one user.
“I think because of the dead skin tissue,” someone else commented.
Others suggested it was due to “plasma”, “biofilm” and even sunshine.
Meanwhile, many people compared the implants to aged phone cases.
Another person wrote: “Is it like when silicone phone cases get yellow?”
“It’s like those clear phone cases how they turn yellow after a while,” added a third person.
“I’m sorry you switch them out like a new phone case, what?,” wrote someone else, adding a sceptical emoji.
“They’ve been well seasoned,” joked someone else.
“They are the same age as me,” another person commented, followed by a suspicious emoji.
“Interesting, they are quite clean considering their age,” another viewer commented.
One person said: “I’ve had mine for 12 years now and they are saline.”
While it isn’t clear why the implants turned yellow, Dr Youn told NeedToKnow.online: “It is believed that microscopic fat particles might absorb into the implant shell.”
