A woman who suffered from horrific adult acne for eight years has revealed how she finally cured her skin by chance – after trying a product which wasn’t even designed to help spots.

Amy Collins, 31, from Sheffield, was stunned when a facial tanning mist turned out to be the unlikely cure for her severe pimples.

The makeup artist had been struggling to cure her aggressive spots for the better part of a decade, trying various skincare products from high-end treatments to home remedies.

But incredibly, the only fix came from a bottle of fake tan.

Within two weeks of trying out the Utan x Jamie Genevieve CBD Tanning Water – which she had purchased as a mist which wouldn’t need to be rubbed into her face, aggravating her spots – she noticed an incredible difference.

“My skin beforehand was plagued with acne – I had severe redness, huge spots and lots of pustules and whiteheads,” Amy told NeedToKnow.online.

“My nose was so congested it was permanently red and often the skin cracked and bled.

“Plus, I was super paranoid whilst going out to do simple things such as food shopping that people were staring at and judging me.

“I actually stopped going to most social events because of my skin.”

Two weeks after she first used the tanning mist, she noticed a drastic improvement in her skin.

She first heard about the product after following Scottish makeup artist Jamie Genevieve on social media.

Amy said: “When she posted about a facial tan/setting spray that worked over and under makeup, I was sold. I started using it in May 2022.

“Within a few days, I noticed my redness had massively improved but it was maybe two weeks before I made the connection that it was the CBD in the product that was clearing my spots.

“At first I just noticed I wasn’t getting new breakouts, then slowly my existing spots calmed down and disappeared.

“I’d previously tried every antibiotic my doctor could give me including topical creams that burned my skin.

“I’ve also tried crazy amounts of skincare from high-end brands such as Elemis, Clarins, Estée Lauder, and La Mer to name a few, to cheap and cheerful things like Sudocrem and nothing had long-lasting results for more than a week.

“Currently my skin looks great. I have less redness and barely a spot on my face.

“I will be tanning again tonight with the 50% darker spray – my favourite! My skin looks so glowy in the morning after using this.

“I would say my skin is now like regular, normal skin – I still get minor monthly breakouts but they are nothing like before.

“My skin is no longer sore or bumpy, I can go bare-faced in public and when I do put my makeup on, it applies perfectly.

“I do have some scarring from old acne but I appreciate that will take time to fade completely.”

Amy is particularly grateful after suffering low self-esteem as a result of her acne struggle – which even affected her work.

She said: “Being a makeup artist with bad skin was humiliating, especially at my age when most people I knew had ‘grown out’ of acne and teenage spots, I felt I had to over-explain my condition to everyone I met.

“I couldn’t bear to cover it with makeup as it was too sore to touch.

“I feel like a huge weight has been lifted finding this product. I’m on a referral list from my GP to a dermatologist because of the severity of my acne and now I feel like I don’t really need the appointment.

“My struggle with skin has been constant for years and years, so finding a product that works has given me a new lease of life and helped me to actually enjoy applying makeup to my own face for once!”
