Story from Jam Press (Engagement At Spoons) Pictured: (Close up) Adrian Stebbeds and Lynda Bird. Couple get engaged in Wetherspoons after meeting in budget chain pub Two pensioners got engaged in a Wetherspoons, after meeting in another of the budget chain pubs. Adrian Stebbeds and Lynda Bird first bumped into each other a year ago. They met at The Red Lion boozer in Skegness, Lincolnshire, while both were on holiday in the seaside town. Adrian, 73, was on a caravan holiday with pals and Lynda was staying at a hotel nearby with her sister. The pair struck up a friendship while having evening meals in the pub. They then met up occasionally for dinner at The Sir Nigel Gresley, in Swadlincote, Derbyshire. He then popped the question to Lynda in that Wetherspoons and she said yes. Both are huge Spoons fans, with Adrian’s favourite tipple being a Ruddles Best and Lynda’s a glass of Chardonnay. Adrian, of Norwich, said: “At our age, neither of us wanted to waste any time. “Wetherspoon has been a big part of our life and now it’s part of our story.” Rob Winterton, manager of The Sir Nigel Gresley said: “It’s a great story and they make a lovely couple. “Everyone here wishes them all the best for a happy future.” ENDS
