A flight attendant has revealed secrets from the sky – from how to deal with famous passengers to where the food is cooked and why the galley has a curtain.
Barbara Bacilieri is a well-known content creator, with over 4.3m followers on TikTok (@barbiebac .ok).
Previously, she had shared tips, tricks, and hacks to frequent fliers, including how to look for hidden cameras in hotel rooms.
Now, she is revealing the answers to five of the most common questions she is often asked.
DOES THE PLANE HAVE A KITCHEN?
If you’ve ever ordered a hot meal on a plane, you’ve probably asked yourself how the food comes out scorching.
“Airplanes don’t have proper kitchens as you may think,” the flight attendant from Argentina told http://NeedToKnow.co.uk.
“There is a dedicated area in the galley where we prep the food.
“But flight attendants are no cooks, we don’t have training on this.
“So all the food that you eat on the plane is cooked in big kitchens near the airport, and they are taken to the aeroplane before every flight.
“They are stowed in trolleys, and some of them might be refrigerated.
“The pre-cooked meals are heated during the flight, before the inflight service, in convection ovens.”
CAN FLIGHT ATTENDANTS TAKE PICTURES WITH FAMOUS PASSENGERS?
Barbara has also shared what it is like to have celebrities board the plane, and how close flight attendants can get, even if they are a little star-struck.
She said: ”The airline teaches us to treat all passengers the same way, without making distinctions.
“But the truth is that every time a famous actor or singer comes on board, all the passengers and the crew get stirred up.
“Flight attendants may be trained for emergency purposes, but we are also humans.
“And if this celebrity is cool with it, we can take a picture with them, but that is it
“No giving free drinks or a better seat, that would be totally against our professionalism.
”More importantly, we shouldn’t go on social media spilling the tea on this celebrity that we had as a passenger.
“Taking care of their privacy and intimacy is very important.”
WHY DOES THE GALLEY HAVE A CURTAIN?
While many of us may assume it is only used while they cook the food, it may be for other reasons too.
She said: “The galley also serves as the flight attendants’ second home, it is where we spend most of the time during the flight.
”Of course, we need some privacy at some times, that is why the galley has a curtain.
“So that we can close it when we eat for example.”
WHAT DO FLIGHT ATTENDANTS DO ONCE THEY LAND?
After the flight lands you may think the attendants go for a quick sunbathe on the beach, a nap or a swim in the pool.
But no, security comes first.
She added: “Flight attendants first check the hotel room to make sure it is safe and that no one is there.
“When arriving at the room, flight attendants leave the door open, blocking it with their luggage.
“This is because if someone is in there they can run away or shout for help.
“Then, with a hanger, they start searching for hidden persons behind the curtains, or under the bed.
“It is very important to check inside the closet and also in the bathroom.
“Don’t forget to also check for hidden cameras.”
WHAT DO YOU DO IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY?
Barbara says to always, without a doubt, watch the safety demonstration at the start of your flight, even if you’ve watched it before.
She added: “First of all, keep your seatbelt fastened during the whole flight.
“And only when the aircraft comes to a complete stop unfasten your seatbelt and follow the cabin crew instructions.
“Leave all your personal belongings on the plane, do not take anything with you.
“Go to your nearest emergency exit, and get out of the plane through the slide as instructed.
“When out, get away from the aircraft quickly, as it may explode.”
