The police smashed a criminal gang known as ‘Los Arroyo’ in the Mexican capital Mexico City.
Three suspects were arrested during the raid in the home in the borough of Gustavo A. Madero.
The gang members are accused of counterfeiting banknotes, mainly MXN 500 (£23) bills.
Agents came across a satanic altar in the property, suggesting the suspects dabbled in black magic.
The police also found the spider monkey in the home.
One female cop was filmed looking after the animal before handing it over to the environmental authorities a week later.
The police dubbed the cute creature Boots, presumably after the monkey in the Dora the Explorer franchise.
Yesterday (24 Apr), Boots was transferred to the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection where it will be cared for until a decision is made on its future.
Due to habitat loss, hunting, and the illegal trade of wildlife, spider monkeys are considered an endangered species in Mexico.
Keeping an endangered species can lead to a fine of over MXN 2 million (£93,736) or a prison term of up to nine years, as reported by Need to Know.
The investigation into the criminal gang is ongoing following the raid on a property on 17 April.
