A pair of loved up Brits decided to book their first date abroad after matching on a dating app despite being total strangers.

Sophie Holdgate and Conor Jay matched on Hinge where the holiday first date idea sparked.

On her profile, 27-year-old Sophie decided to put a section saying ‘Together, we could buy the £99 Wowcher mystery holiday as our first date’.

This enticed Conor, 29, into replying and he wooed Sophie with a comment about collecting fridge magnets.

After a week of speaking about the trip the two, both from Leeds, noticed that if they used the mystery holiday they would have to wait a while to go.

Worried that one would back out as they waited, the pair met up for drinks on March 22 and booked a trip to Copenhagen, Denmark for the next weekend.

The trip cost the pair £300 each and after just two weeks of getting to know each other the couple boarded an easyJet flight from Manchester airport to Denmark.

Their four day holiday abroad lasted from 29 March to 1 April.

Both being lovers of travel the pair’s relationship is still going strong, meeting up every weekend since their first date holiday.

Sophie Holgate, who works in marketing, told Need To Know: “Dating can be endless sometimes so it was nice to meet someone who is also spontaneous so we connected straight away.

“If you’re not a shy person and feel confident travelling then it’s really worth trying.

“It’s definitely something that you can’t overthink, you’ve just got to go for it.

“My friends and family weren’t surprised.

“I love to travel and I’d recently come back from two years in Australia so I’m used to meeting new people all of the time when on holiday and staying in hostels.

“Conor was the same, he has completed over 80% of Europe so is used to travelling as well.

“That’s why we chose Copenhagen as it was one of the few places in Europe he’d not been to yet.

“We found that booking a trip ourselves was more convenient as we wanted to go the week after.

“If we used Wowcher we would have had to wait and we were both worried that if we waited too long then one of us would back out, so we booked the trip that night and went the weekend after.

“One thing we had in common was planning an itinerary before so Conor sent me a google document titled ‘Con and big sophs Copenhagen adventure’ with the message ‘your carriage awaits my lady’ and we listed everything we each wanted to do.

“Including going to the round tower, Tivoli gardens, lots of bike riding, coffee shops and good food.”
