A grotty Burger King has been slammed with a one-star food rating after inspectors made a whole host of grim discoveries.
The fast food restaurant on Square Road, in Halifax, was subject to a council review that revealed some horrifying results.
The standard of cleanliness in the kitchen was branded as “generally poor” and a “foul smell” was discovered under the sink.

The damming review listed eleven areas that required an urgent deep clean.
The list included the freezer door, under the fryers, wall to floor junctions, grouting to the wall tiles, skirting boards and an area around the drain pipe.

Cracked floor tiles, missing skirting boards and a broken drain were also noted in the review as needing urgent attention.

The inspection was conducted on 25 April by Calderdale Council’s Community Protection team, as reported by Needs To Know.
Despite the one-star rating, the food hygiene and safety mark was of a satisfactory level, but urgent improvements were required on the premises and in terms of management.
The council’s report stated: “The standard of cleaning to the structure of the kitchen including the equipment was generally poor.

“Some parts such as the skirting boards, corner junctions and the grouting had a large build-up of dirt. Some of the areas that need cleaning have been mentioned previously.
“The drain cover underneath the wash basin is creating a foul smell and may contaminate food.
“The drain cover isn’t securely fitted.”
A spokesperson from Burger King stated: “We would like to reassure customers that food safety and hygiene remains a top priority at Burger King UK and we are committed to ensuring the best possible experience for our guests.
“We can confirm that all corrective actions have been implemented, there are no outstanding issues with the restaurant, and we have requested a rescore.”
Members of the public who have visited the Burger King in question were also left disgusted with their experience of the venue.
Shannon said: “Staff were mimicking another customer in front of me, the lady was struggling with her order and had an accent.
“The staff were laughing at her.

“Staff at the back of the kitchen were peering through the shelves to stare and laugh at the above customer.
“Staff were sitting on the sides where the food is made, gathered and having a chat.
“Staff continued to laugh because I was wearing a backpack?
“Toilets were unsanitary, there was urine all over the seat and floor.”
Willhelm stated: “I just got a £100 penalty because I stayed more than 45 minutes.
“The staff should warn people that you can only park for 45 minutes.
“I spent more than 20 pounds, and then they fined me, this is disgusting.
“I had to wait 10 minutes for my burger. The soda refilling station wasn’t working, everytime I had to ask the staff to refill my drink.
“Then I ordered another burger. The toilet is always locked and you have to ask the staff to open it.
“All of these things made me stay longer. Standards dropped so low, the UK is becoming a 3rd world country.”
Jam Press has approached Burger King for comment but had not heard back at the time of writing.
