Phil Foden has temporarily left England’s Euro 2024 camp to be with his girlfriend Rebecca Cooke for the birth of their third child.
The Manchester City midfielder and Cooke announced the pregnancy in April, sharing the joyful news via Instagram with photos from a baby shower in Stockport.
The 24-year-old is expected to rejoin the squad in time for Sunday’s last-16 match against Slovakia in Gelsenkirchen. Rob Dorsett, a senior reporter currently in Germany with the England squad, confirmed Foden’s brief departure.

Dorsett emphasized that Foden’s intention is to support his girlfriend during this important family event and return to Germany shortly to continue participating in the tournament.
The Football Association released a statement on Wednesday confirming Foden’s return to the UK, citing a “pressing family matter.” Despite his absence, Foden’s contributions have been significant in helping England top Group C.
He narrowly missed scoring in the 1-1 draw with Denmark and has shown flashes of his Manchester City form, although he hasn’t fully hit his stride yet in the tournament.
Gareth Southgate has faced challenges in optimizing his array of attacking talents, with England managing only two goals in their three group stage matches.
Foden, who made his senior England debut in September 2020, also played in Euro 2020 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup, continues to be a vital part of Southgate’s squad.
