A man was impaled by an iron rod puncturing his entire torso after falling from a scaffold.
The 57-year-old fell from a height of five metres, with his bottom landing on the sharp rod, which measured more than 60cm.
Graphic images show how it punctured his perineum – the area between the anus and scrotum – and up through his torso, penetrating the liver and part of the diaphragm, and narrowly missing his heart.

The man, believed to be from Brazil, was rushed to hospital for urgent treatment, reports Need To Know.
Doctors performed blood transfusions, while a scan showed the full length of the rod in the body.
The patient underwent a laparotomy (surgical incision into the abdominal cavity) and thoracotomy (incision between the ribs to reach the lungs and other chest organs) to examine the extent of the damage.
They were then able to remove the rod fully and stabilise the patient following the incident – which was described as “extremely uncommon”.
Incredibly, he recovered well and moved to a regular ward after three days, before being discharged from hospital 12 days following the incident.
