The unusual scene was filmed by a local woman in Chengdu, China on Sunday (18 Aug).
Ms Wang caught the event from the 11th floor of a hospital.
She said several people were transfixed by it and that it was visible from several angles.
The spectacle lasted roughly a minute, as reported by Need To Know.
The images show how the ‘seven’ suns are partially obscured by the same cloud pattern.
Local media said it was an optical illusion caused by light refracting and reflecting off layered glass.
Online viewers were quick to react.
Fengyun commented: “Except for the brightest sun in the centre, which is the ‘real sun’, the others are mere illusions created by the refraction and reflection of window glass and the lens.
“This effect is common when photographing through multiple layers of glass.”
Ji had another theory: “This happened because of a magnetic field glitch that made parallel universes visibly manifest.
“The Cosmic Bureau has fixed the issue, and those responsible have been reprimanded.”
Kidd quipped: “We’ve finally uncovered the truth about global warming.”
