Civil Protection personnel and Red Cross paramedics arrived at the scene on Sunday (13 Oct) afternoon and managed to extract the three people from the vehicle.

Villarreal Núñez was immediately pronounced dead while the other two were taken from the scene in Villaldama, Mexico, to a hospital in nearby Sabinas Hidalgo, with serious injuries.
They were still being treated there at the time of reporting.
Villarreal Núñez was elected “Reina de Turismo”, or “Tourism Queen”, of El Carmen municipality, Nuevo León state, in 2018.
According to her social media, she was from Sabinas Hidalgo but lived in Monterrey, as reported by Need To Know.

She had studied at the Faculty of Accounting and Administration of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León.
It is not clear who was driving the pickup truck at the time of the accident.
The former pageant winner’s age at the time of her death is similarly unclear.
Alberto Roque, CEO of Reina Turismo Internacional, wrote on social media: “On behalf of the entire Reina Turismo pageant family and myself, we join in prayer for the sorrow that has engulfed the Villarreal Núñez, Villarreal Soto, and Núñez Treviño families over the heartbreaking loss of Samanta Núñez, who proudly represented El Carmen in the 2018 Reina Turismo Nuevo León state pageant.

“There are no words for such pain. We send you a heartfelt embrace.”
The accident is reportedly under investigation.
