The Pegasus airlines flight took off from the Sabiha Gökçen Airport, located in Istanbul, Turkey, on Sunday (Nov 17) at 4pm.
Its destination was set to be Mersin, in Turkey, in a journey that should have lasted approximately one-hour-and-a-half.
The plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Kyseri due to dangerous weather.
Kayseri, also in Turkey, was also only one hour and 25 minutes away from the airport where the flight departed.
The aircraft had no choice but to remain in the air for double the amount of time, as the severity of the storm made landing impossible.
Upon landing after three hours in the air, some of the passengers had been so affected that an ambulance was dispatched.
Medical teams intervened to tend to the disturbed passengers at the airport in Kayseri, as reported by Need To Know.
Pegasus airlines released a statement on the matter on 18 November.
They wrote: “Attention to our valued guests. On November 17, 2024, our Sabiha Gökçen-Çukurova flight, number PC2092, landed safely at Kayseri Erkilet Airport instead of the planned destination due to adverse weather conditions during the flight.
“We always consider the safety of our guests and team as our top priority.
“Apart from turbulence caused by weather conditions, no incidents were experienced and such weather events are managed with standard measures determined for flight safety and security.
“The safety and comfort of our guests are always protected at the highest level.”
