Concerned locals believed the faint screams to be that of a spirit in the woods and say they stopped going outside after dark.
To conserve his strength, Liu only shouted for help for a brief period every hour.
Police were eventually made aware of the sounds and dispatched rescue personnel to the forest.
After locating the voice, the crew found Liu at the bottom of the well.
They launched a rescue operation and got him out after just 30 minutes.
With no access to food or water, the victim was suffering from severe dehydration.
He also had a fractured left wrist, cerebral concussion and bruises on his body.
The rescue team rushed him to hospital and he has since been discharged.
The incident took place last month in Mae Sot in Thailand, near the border to Myanmar.
