Two 14-year-old boys have been found dead after they went searching for their pet dog.

The loss of José David Cardona and Walter Abraham López Santizo has left hearts in their community shattered.

Their lifeless bodies were discovered on 17 December after they went missing four days earlier.

José and Walter had gone looking for their pet dog, Milly, after it escaped and got in a fight with another animal.

CCTV has been key to the investigation into their tragic deaths as it appears to capture their final moments.

In the clip, the dog can be seen being chased by another animal before both go off in separate directions.

The boys then run after the dog and turn a corner, disappearing out of view.

Howls and loud barking can be heard halfway through the video.

A search began in the area of San Marcos, Guatemala, to find them both.

José and Walter were discovered in the same area where the search had started, as reported by Need To Know.

Authorities are currently taking the necessary steps so that they can determine the cause of death.

Any details on possible signs of violence have not yet been provided and more details are expected in the coming days.

The news of the tragedy has sparked strong reactions amongst the people of San Marcos.

Family, friends, and neighbours of the boys demand that a thorough investigation be conducted to clarify the facts.

They are keen to find who is responsible for the deaths and if anybody else was involved.

The community has been left devastated and is eager for answers.

Some locals have been left angry as they feel that the police took too long to find José and Walter.

It has been said that the place where they were found had already been checked more than once by those who were part of the search.

The MP of San Marcos has assured that the institution did not learn about José and Walter’s disappearance until 1:35am on 14 December (GMT-6).

He has stated that relatives were interviewed and places where they were last seen were checked.
