The vehicle left the road and crashed into a wooded area.

Banegas died at the scene while his teammates suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The other players – named Selvin Euceda, Ángel Daniel Martínez, and Joel Martínez – were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

The group was travelling on the R20 highway between Santa Barbara and San Pedro Sula in north-western Honduras when the driver lost control on 11 January.
Banegas played his last match for Real Honduras de San Luis the day before his death.

A spokesperson for the club – which plays in the third division, the Liga Mayor – said they were “deeply disturbed” by news of the player’s passing.
Banegas spent most of his career playing in the Honduran second division, the Liga de Ascenso, as reported by Need To Know.

He represented clubs such as Oro Verde, Club Deportivo Choloma, Yoro, and Atlético Júnior.
His former teams have also paid tribute to the midfielder.
Banegas, who originally came from the city of Choloma, leaves behind a four-year-old son.
A police investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
