How To Future-Proof Your Health While Climbing The Career Ladder

Chasing success is exciting, but it can often involve long hours, back-to-back meetings, and always just being ‘on’, and that can be a problem because in the end, your body will have something to say about it. Of course, it’s easy to ignore stress, aches, and even burnout (at least for a while), especially when you’re focused on your next promotion or big project, but neglecting your health is never a good idea because sooner or later it will all get too much and you’ll end up collapsing – perhaps literally.

The good news is that you don’t have to choose between your career and your wellbeing and you can have both, as long as you know how to future-proof your health while you climb the career ladder. With that in mind, keep reading to find out more.

Stop Ignoring Pain

A stiff neck, sore shoulders, lower back pain… does any of that sound familiar? It’s easy to shrug off these things as just being a normal part of life, but ignoring them won’t make them go away, and will probably just make things worse.

If your job involves sitting all day, heavy lifting, or a lot of repetitive movements, your body is under constant strain, and the result is chronic pain, posture problems, or even serious injuries down the line. If you ever suffer a workplace injury, don’t just try to power through – get it documented and sorted. In some cases, you might be entitled to compensation for back injury at work if poor workplace conditions caused you permanent damage or meant you lost out on your earnings because you couldn’t work. In the end, your health is worth so much more than any job, so you’ve got to do what you can to protect it.

Invest In Your Workplace

If you’re spending 40 plus hours a week at your desk, your setup really needs to work for you. That’s why it’s important to get an ergonomic chair so your back is better protected, and if you raise your screen to eye level, your neck pain shouldn’t be so much of a problem. Plus, it’s wise to protect your wrists by using a proper keyboard and mouse – again, you can get an ergonomically designed version to help you the most.

And if your job means you need to lift, stand, or do any kind of physical work, make sure you’re using proper techniques and support gear and don’t wait until your body starts complaining loudly before you make any changes!

Don’t Let Work Take Over Your Life

Success won’t actually mean anything if your health is wrecked by the time you get there, so you’ll need to set some non-negotiable boundaries to protect yourself. They can include things like making sure you move at least every hour, getting enough quality sleep, and making time for exercise, as well, as eating a balanced diet.

Plus, you’ll need to put some boundaries in place for when work is finished and you’re on your own time – working all the time just means more stress and less health, so it’s not worth the hassle.
