A 57-year-old woman has been left overjoyed after discovering that she is expecting her first baby.
Sonja Mirotic and her husband Marko, 69, have been trying to conceive for the past 22 years.
In what has been a tough journey, they are both excited to become parents for the very first time in the spring.
Their story of perseverance has captured the attention of those in their community.
In an interview with local press, Sonja revealed that the couple had encountered eight spontaneous miscarriages.

She revealed that the journey for herself and Marko involved lots of effort, suffering, and operations.
They both even took a break and gave up on trying to conceive for a while, according to the interview with TV Prva.
Sonja met with a gynaecologist who referred her to Dr. Ana Jeremic, who then sent the couple to Skopje, in North Macedonia.

Here, Sonja, who is from Grbavci, a village in the municipality of Podgorica, Montenegro, received donor eggs, with the process being a success.
After trying for a baby over two decades ago, she will be entering her eighth month of pregnancy in a few days, as reported by Need To Know.

Sonja was unable to undergo IVF treatment in her home country as there is an age limit on women using donor eggs.
She has stated that she was ready to give up but a friend of the couple, Zdenka, pushed them to keep fighting for what they wanted.

The couple are thrilled to be welcoming their first child in around one month’s time.
