A “healthy” woman who recently turned 120 is hoping to clinch the world record for the oldest living person.

Deolira Glicéria Pedro da Silva turned 12 decades old on Monday (10 Mar) and celebrated the occasion with her family.

Her loved ones are currently in touch with Guinness World Records in a bid to secure her recognition as the world’s oldest person.

GWR currently lists Brazilian nun Inah Canabarro Lucas as the record holder. Inah was born on 8 June 1908, making her 116.

But Deolira, according to her birth certificate, came into the world on 10 March 1905, more than three years earlier.

Deolira was born in Porciúncula, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. She currently lives in nearby Itaperuna.

The family doctor, Juair de Abreu, told local media: “We already have her birth certificate, which is one of the required documents.

“We’re just waiting for another document to submit the official request.”

Three of Deolira’s eight children are still alive, including Ivani, who turns 90 later this month.

She is blessed with a large family, including 17 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren.

Deolira has long been passionate about music and carnival. Her family says she used to stay up all night watching samba schools parade on TV.

She celebrated her 120th birthday with plenty of food and, of course, a live band, as reported by Need To Know.

As to how she has managed to live for so long, Juair said: “She has always had a balanced diet, which has helped her digestion and swallowing.

“On top of that, she gets good-quality sleep, which is essential for cognitive health.

“She has no underlying conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes, doesn’t take any medication, and her latest test results were all good.”
