Road trips are great fun! A road trip is something everyone should do at one point in their lives. There is nothing better than getting to wake up in a different destination each day and getting to experience different cultures. One minute you could be on a sunny beach in Canada, the next you could be climbing a mountain for panoramic views and then exploring a major city.
When going on a road trip, there will be times when you have to travel to different destinations. The travelling time may be quick for some places, but for others, it may be a few hours, and this is when you want to have a few things prepared to keep yourself entertained – there is nothing worse than being on a long journey and not having anything to entertain you with.
To start with, having a playlist downloaded on your phone is a must, as this will give you something to listen to on your journey (just make sure you don’t forget your headphones). Having some games downloaded to your phone is also useful, and so is having a set of cards, as you can play this when on trains or a bus (if it has a table).
Keep on reading for our quick guide on ways to keep yourself entertained when travelling on a road trip.
Spotify playlist
It goes without saying, you can’t go on a road trip without having a Spotify (or Apple Music) playlist. It’s a must, as music is a great way to pass the time during your journey. Music can pick you up when you are feeling tired, as well as having a down moment, due to having been travelling for a long time. When putting a playlist together, make sure you download it offline; this way, you can listen to it, even when you don’t have a signal on your phone. If you are exploring rural areas, you can never guarantee you will get a signal.
Mobile phone games
Another thing to make sure you do is download a few mobile games which you can play. Download various games which have a good storyline; this way, you can get engrossed in the gameplay. Along with storyline games, try to download some multiplayer games, which you can play with the people you are travelling with. You could play chess or Monopoly as a couple of suggestions.
Cards
We never go away without having a deck of cards on us or a couple of card games, such as Monopoly GO. If you are on a train or a bus with a table, you can spend hours playing different card games to pass the time. Before going, we suggest learning a few games which you can play; this way, you don’t have to try and learn any on your journeys. As well as playing card games during your travels, they can be fun to play when you are relaxing in the evening. Plus, the better you get at the card games you learn, the more competitive you will be with each other.
Hand-Held Console
If you’ve got the budget, buying a games console before your travels could be an option. Having a console like a Nintendo Switch will give you many hours of entertainment. You can play puzzle games, sports games, and action games, among many other genres. No matter your interest, there will be a wide variety of games which you can choose from. Our advice would be to pick games which you can really get stuck into; this way, you feel an urge to play them whilst you are travelling.
There are many different ways to keep yourself entertained. The above are a few must-haves which we think you should have with you or prepared, especially music! And having some games downloaded on your phone, for that matter. Other ways to keep yourself entertained when travelling on a road trip include having some films downloaded, bringing an iPad with you, listening to audiobooks, or bringing a book or Kindle with you. A Kindle is particularly useful as you can download multiple books on it, instead of having to bring different books with you. Plus, you can sign up for an online subscription, giving you access to new books throughout your travels.
What do you like to do to keep yourself entertained when travelling? Is there something we haven’t included that you think we should be adding to our guide? Which of the above options do you think is most important? Let us know in the comment box below, we look forward to hearing from you.
