A 19-year-old student has vanished in mysterious circumstances while climbing a mountain with friends.

Ana Amelí García Gámez went missing 11 days ago on 12 July.

In her last photo, she was seen posing with a group of strangers after becoming separated from her friends.

She was climbing the Pico del Águila mountain in the Cumbres del Ajusco National Park near Mexico City, Mexico, when she disappeared.

The biology student is described as being 5’3” tall with a chipped front tooth and a stretched earlobe on her right ear.

On the day of her disappearance, she was wearing a white jacket, military-style trousers, brown climbing boots, a white helmet and a light blue backpack.

According to her family, Ana became separated from her friends and decided to continue alone until she came across another group on the trail.

She sent a text message to a relative between 4pm and 5pm to say she was okay, although she didn’t share her exact location.

Her father Ricardo García raised the alarm when she failed to return home that evening.

In the last images before her disappearance, Ana posed for photos at the peak with members of a hiking group called Senderismo Tepemecatl.

The Secretariat of Security and Civilian Protection and the Attorney General’s Office is investigating the avid climber’s mysterious disappearance.

Over 100 officials have been divided into five groups to scour the mountain range for the missing teen.

The search operation includes the use of drones, helicopters and canine units, as reported by Need To Know.

In addition, investigators have been carrying out interviews with witnesses and close associates while maintaining contact with the young woman’s family.

They also quizzed the group members she was photographed with at the peak, but they said she separated from them shortly afterwards.
