A couple who are often mistaken for twin sisters have welcomed their first child together.

Whitney and Megan Bacon-Evans have been together for 17 years, but with matching blonde hair and similar styles, they have often been mistaken for being closely related.

After three unsuccessful rounds of intrauterine insemination (IUI) and two rounds of IVF – to the tune of £40,000 – they have finally been able to grow their family, welcoming baby Olivia.

Carried by 38-year-old Megan, Olivia was born in May, and the trio have been enjoying settling into their new family bubble ever since.

“It’s been absolutely wonderful being her mummies – well, mummy and mommy,” Whitney, 37, told Need To Know.

“She is absolutely amazing.

“We’ve never felt a love like this and you truly can’t explain it until you experience it.

“She’s made our love for each other grow and our love for her is expanding every day.

“We feel like we’ve grown a new heart just for her.”

The wives made headlines last year after revealing the bizarre comments they have faced since getting together nearly two decades ago.

Whitney, originally from Kentucky, US, but now living with Megan in Windsor, Berkshire, said: “We are often mistaken as sisters, twins and the worst one of all – mother and daughter.

“They think Megan is [my] mother.

“We hear it all the time, from in person, to online.

“We think people are naturally curious as they sense a deep connection between us and want to know the connection.

“They proceed to ask such questions assuming we’re anything but married and a couple.

“We kindly correct them and say that we are married and have been together for 17 years.

“We hope in correcting them that we can educate them on lesbian couples and to never assume.

“It’s rather awkward when we inform them that we’re married and they reply ‘but you look identical’ – we really don’t!”

The couple first connected on MySpace as teenagers back in 2006 before meeting up two years later when Whitney studied abroad in London.

They spent four years long-distance before Whitney moved to the UK in 2012, and the couple had a civil partnership.

They then “upgraded” to marriage in a 2017 ceremony in California, US.

By 2020, they decided to expand their family by having a child together – though it would be a long journey, costing them tens of thousands of pounds.

Finally, Megan fell pregnant in 2024 and they welcomed little Olivia seven months ago in London.

Whitney said: “The birth was actually one of the most beautiful things we’ve ever experienced in our lives.

“I in particular had anxiety the entire nine months that something was going to go terribly wrong with Megan and the baby.

“Olivia just turned seven months and she’s already growing up so fast!

“The way she looks at us and just smiles beaming with happiness is just the most magical feeling.

“She’s the best baby, so chilled, happy and completed us both in a way we didn’t know we needed.

“Don’t get us wrong, we are tired and it’s a new way of learning to navigate life, but she just fits in so well to our life.

“We don’t feel like we’re mourning our past lives, rather we’ve been blessed with this new soul brightening up our lives every day.”
