Shocked rescue staff have slammed callous owners who deliberately abandoned three kittens and their mother in an almost unreachable spot.
The terrified animals were dumped in a plastic cat carrier box down a steep bank behind barbed wire.
They were only discovered by two litter-pickers after they heard noises.

They alerted rescue staff, who managed to reach the cats.
It happened on Suffield Hill, near Scarborough, North Yorkshire, as reported by Need To Know.
Tina Lewis, of Filey Cat Rescue, said: “To the people who did this, you had not phoned us.
“There were many better options than the one you chose.
“Thank goodness they were found.
“A couple who were litter picking alerted us to a carrier that had kittens down a steep bank.
“They were kind enough to leave a blue bag tied to the fence, indicating where they were.
“Kate and I were extremely upset to find Mum and three kittens screaming for help and soaked, obviously tossed from the side of the road and left to die.
“We were alerted only because the litter picking couple stopped to have a rest, and the kittens heard them and cried out.
“They are safe, warm and have had three helpings of food.
“They will have a little bath tonight and go to the vets tomorrow for their first vaccination.
“I know a few people have filled out forms for adoption.
“We would love these kittens and mum to be rehomed ASAP so they can be spoilt with lots of love.”
The emotional moment the kittens were rescued was captured on camera.

Three days later, she added: “Mum and three kittens are doing really well and settling in lovely.
“They have visited the vets and are all healthy, a little too young to start vaccinations.
“We are hoping to home them either all three kittens together or three kittens and mum.
“They are all very friendly and loving all their cat trees and toys.
“We would love some very special homes for them, where they are very spoilt.”
