A fitness-loving father was removed from a marathon after running with his baby daughter strapped to his chest for more than two hours.

He was spotted carrying a rucksack on his back and the infant on his front, with his race number attached to the tot’s puffer jacket.

The man ran at a slow pace, using his left hand to support the baby’s neck while holding his mobile phone in his right.

But stunned witnesses said that despite his efforts, the infant still bounced up and down throughout the race.

One competitor recalled: “He started the full marathon right next to me. I was shocked – the baby looked no older than six months.

“How could anyone be so irresponsible?”

Another said: “Poor baby, completely shaken up – she even vomited her leftover milk!”

A third added: “This could so easily give the baby a concussion.”

The man, surnamed Wang, started Sunday’s (18 Jan) marathon in Hong Kong at 6:25am, as reported by Need To Know.

He had completed more than 15km (nine miles) of the race – in about 2 hours 20 minutes – before officials spotted him and removed him for violating the baby-ban rule.

The Hong Kong China Association of Athletics Affiliates said he was asked to “retire and leave the course immediately during the event to ensure safety”.

He was also banned from future events by the organisers.

Experts warn against carrying infants in rucksack-style carriers while running, as the motion can damage their neck, spine, and brain.

It’s important to remember that safety and official race rules are there for good reasons carrying an infant in a marathon can be dangerous both physically and legally.
