An influencer has died after jumping into a fast-flowing river from a bridge for a viral challenge, livestreaming it.
Angel Montoya was last seen alive while jumping into one of the most turbulent rivers in South America.
He livestreamed the stunt from a bridge spanning across the tributary.
In the clip, the influencer says: “We’re here, we’re here in Amazonas, Peru, and we’re going to jump, my brother.
“See you later.”
He jumped a distance of around 16.5ft (5m) while filming live for his fans.
Angel was then seen being dragged along the Cauca River in Colombia, unable to fight against the current.
He was filmed trying to swim to the shore, before disappearing from view.
It’s unclear why he said he was in Peru when the jump took place near the city of Tulua in Colombia’s Valle del Cauca region.
The influencer was swept away by the currents last Tuesday (27 Jan).
His body was found in the municipality of Bolívar, Valle del Cauca, three days later by a team of workers collecting sand from the riverbank.
The authorities said the search operation was hampered by heavy rain and strong river currents.

Nearly 25 municipalities in the region have been affected by flash floods in recent days, as reported by Need To Know.
Following the influencer’s death, the authorities reminded citizens to take extra care due to the rising river levels in the region.
Angel’s passing also sparked an online debate about the dangers of viral challenges in high-risk natural environments.
