Three pro footballers and a team coach survived a horror crash on their way back from training.

The teammates were preparing for a grudge match against their derby rivals next week.

Attacking midfielder Rodrigo ‘Droopy’ Gómez was driving his luxury SUV on a motorway when he was allegedly cut up by a truck driver.

He reportedly lost control of his vehicle and crashed head-on into another SUV.

He was with teammates Emilio Izaguirre Jr. and Luis Garibaldi, and trainer Fredy Díaz at the time of the crash.

It took place on the CA-5 highway in southern Honduras on Wednesday evening (18 Feb).

The victims had just left the Pedro Atala Simón Sports Complex in Amarateca bound for the capital Tegucigalpa when the accident happened.

The teammates, who play for FC Motagua in the Honduran top flight, were training ahead of their derby match with CD Olimpia on 23 February, as reported by Need To Know.

None of the occupants suffered serious injuries, although the scare caused concern among fans.

They have all since resumed duties with the rest of the squad.

Rodrigo, who admitted to feeling “dizzy” after the crash, shared a photo of the inside of a church on Instagram for his 55,000 fans.

The Argentine midfielder said: “Always be grateful for every moment and every blessing.”

His Changan X7 Plus SUV, which he bought only days before, was badly damaged in the multi-vehicle crash.

The accident is being investigated by the National Directorate of Roads and Transportation.
