Flames were seen shooting out of the man’s right headlight, leaving streaky burn marks along the car’s white body.
The shocking scenes were filmed in the Baguashan Tunnel on Provincial Highway 76 in Changhua City, Taiwan, at around 9am on Tuesday (3 Mar).
The 53-year-old driver, surnamed Liao, eventually realised that his engine was on fire and pulled over.
As fire hydrants are situated every 50 metres along the tunnel, Mr. Liao hosed down the front of his car and extinguished the flames.
The car’s headlights were completely melted by the fire and smoke continued to billow from under the bonnet, as reported by Need To Know.
Firefighters also arrived on the scene to help extinguish the flames and cool down the engine.
Meanwhile, police officers controlled the accumulating traffic in the tunnel.

In less than 20 minutes, the damaged car was removed from the area and traffic was flowing normally again.
No one was reported as injured.
It’s unclear what caused Mr. Liao’s vehicle to burst into flames.
