A footballer and “dedicated firefighter” has died suddenly aged 28.
Mateusz Rutkowski’s body is due to be buried today (27 Mar).
he died in a hospital in Płock, Poland, shortly before the spring round of the amateur league season was set to begin.

The keen footballer was also a dedicated firefighter in his hometown of Bieżuń, as reported by Need To Know.
The Bieżuń Volunteer Fire Department issued a statement following Mateusz’s untimely passing.
A spokesperson said: “It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce the passing of our friend and colleague, the late Mateusz Rutkowski, on 14 March this year.
“Mateusz was not only a dedicated firefighter, but above all, a man with a big heart, someone we could always count on.

“His sudden passing leaves a void in our ranks that cannot be filled.
“We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
“Mateusz, thank you for your service and for every moment spent at the fire station.
“Rest in peace.”
The MKS WKRA Bieżuń football club also paid tribute to their former player.
A club spokesperson said: “Sad news came from Płocki hospital on Saturday before the inauguration of the spring round.

“A former player of the club, Mateusz ‘Rudy’ Rutkowski, has died.
“He was 28 years old.
“He will always stay in our hearts.”
Mateusz’s family said he “died suddenly” in hospital but did not give any details on the cause of his passing.
His funeral will take place at the parish cemetery in Bieżuń at 2pm today.
