A brave bystander has been hailed a hero after stepping into one of Britain’s busiest roads to direct traffic when the lights suddenly failed.

The man – dressed in jeans and a black top – risked his own safety as he took control of the chaotic junction.

With cars, vans and HGVs speeding past just feet away, he calmly stepped into the road to keep vehicles moving and prevent potential crashes.

The dramatic moment unfolded on the A40 between Hanger Lane and Park Royal in London after the traffic lights went completely dead, as reported by Need To Know.

Footage shows the quick-thinking passer-by stopping traffic from one direction before waving vehicles from another through.

He then repeats the process, acting like a one-man traffic system as vehicles thunder past.

The clip has since racked up more than 22,000 views and hundreds of likes online.

It is unclear when the incident took place, but the video was shared on 25 March.

An eyewitness said: “Someone get this man on the Transport for London payroll immediately.

“The lights went totally dead on the A40 and when no one turned up to sort it out, this absolute legend stepped into one of London’s busiest junctions to keep the traffic flowing and prevent any crashes.”

Viewers were quick to praise his efforts – with some joking he might be too good for the job.

One person said: “He’s no good to TfL because he’s keeping the traffic moving nicely and steadily.”
