A family of six was killed in a horror crash just minutes after picking up their new car from the dealership.

The group was heading to the local cemetery to visit the grave of a family member when the crash occurred on Sunday (7 Jun).

They had just picked up the new Proton X50 SUV from a sales centre at around 11am.

Family members posed for photos beside the car, excited for its maiden journey before setting off.

The SUV, owned by Ahmad Fahim Ahmad Shukri, 21, reportedly crashed head-on with a lorry on the way to the cemetery in Juru, Penang, Malaysia.

Eyewitness accounts and dashcam footage suggested the SUV veered into the oncoming lane on a straight stretch of road in Kampung Baru Pinang Tunggal, colliding with the 10-tonne soil-laden lorry.

The victims were named as Ahmad Fahim, his elder brother Lance Corporal Ahmad Syafiq Ahmad Shukri, 27, Nora Mhd Husin, 55, Jamaliah Sannusi, 27, Iskandar Arfan Ibrahim, seven, and two-month-old Ahmad Mikail Ahmad Syafiq.

A three-year-old survivor, Aulia Sofea Ahmad Syafiq, was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Ibrahim Ghazali, 39, father of Iskandar Arfan, said: “They were very happy this morning to collect the car, but everything happened so suddenly.

“We never saw it coming.”

Fire crews arrived at the crash site within minutes and used hydraulic rescue equipment to extricate the bodies trapped in the wreckage.

Police Chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah confirmed the 47-year-old lorry driver held a valid licence, was not speeding, and tested negative for drugs and alcohol, as reported by Need To Know.

The driver, who has seven previous traffic summonses, was detained by the police and is being investigated for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.
