A plane struck a pole so hard it penetrated the cabin and forced the oxygen masks to drop.

The Boeing 777’s right wing hit the radar mast while taxiing after landing.

The impact was so strong that it caused the pole to collapse and strike the side of the aircraft.

The mast penetrated the fuselage and caused oxygen masks to deploy inside the cabin.

The accident took place on Turkish Airlines flight TK2430 at Antalya International Airport in Turkey yesterday (11 Jun).

The plane had just arrived from Istanbul and was taxiing towards its parking position following a normal landing when it struck the mast, as reported by Need To Know.

The collision pierced the fuselage skin, dislodged an overhead storage bin and forced oxygen masks to drop in several rows, sparking panic among passengers.

Footage showed oxygen masks dangling from the overhead compartments damaged by the force of the strike.

All 267 passengers and crew were safely evacuated by the emergency services with no life-threatening injuries.

One passenger reportedly sustained minor injuries.

Turkish Airlines has launched a technical investigation into the cause.

The Turkish Ministry of Transport stated: “The plane entered the taxiway from the wrong lane after landing on our airport’s runway and collided with a ground radar mast on apron-1.

“After the passengers were evacuated and necessary checks were carried out, the aircraft was towed to the apron parking area.”

The damaged Boeing 777-300ER, registered TC-LKD, was towed to a parking position after initial safety checks.

The 17-year-old aircraft, which had recently returned from a lease with IndiGo and was still operating in that carrier’s livery, sustained significant damage to its right wing and fuselage that will require extensive repairs.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
