A man has sadly died from injuries which were caused by a suspected gas explosion which destroyed a bungalow.

Stephen Woodward died in hospital after he suffered near 85 percent burns to his body during the explosion.

The 67-year-old, known locally as Steve, was inside his home with his pet dog, Milly the Doberman.

The explosion ripped through a bungalow on Cobb Hall Road in Newton Longville, near Milton Keynes, on 9 Aug, as reported by Need To Know.

A doorbell cam captured the terrifying moment as it happened.

Footage shows the peaceful morning suddenly shattered as debris is blasted across the quiet residential street.

Bricks and roof tiles can be seen falling from the sky as huge plumes of smoke and flames erupt from the destroyed property.

Whilst Stephen was rushed to hospital, neighbouring homes were evacuated.

Labour MP for Buckingham, Bletchley, Tattenhoe, Winslow and the many surrounding villages in between, Callum Anderson, confirmed the tragic news.

The politician stated: “I am deeply saddened to hear of the death of Stephen Woodward following the gas explosion in Newton Longville last Sunday.

“This is an absolute tragedy, and my thoughts are with Stephen’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time, as well as with all those in the wider community who have been affected or displaced by this devastating incident.

“I know that a joint investigation is currently being carried out by the Health and Safety Executive and Thames Valley Police.

“If you have any information that may be relevant to the investigation, please contact Thames Valley Police, quoting URN 660 and the relevant date.

“My sincere condolences go to everyone impacted by this heartbreaking loss.”

A spokesperson for the Newton Longville Parish Council said: “It has been announced this morning that Steve Woodward, the Cobb Hall Road resident injured on Sunday, has sadly succumbed to those injuries.

“Our deepest condolences go to Steve’s family and friends.

“He will clearly be very much missed by this community.”

The neighbour whose doorbell camera captured the dramatic footage, and who asked not to be named, said their own home was also damaged.

Nicki Richardson, a friend of the neighbour, said: “It is absolutely frightening to see the force of the explosion from a property opposite.”
