Devastating floods and landslides have killed at least 70 people across India and Nepal – as terrifying footage captured the moment the ground appears to SWALLOW a house and trees in seconds.

Dramatic video shows a huge section of saturated earth suddenly giving way and sliding down a hillside.

Trees begin disappearing as the ground collapses beneath them before a building is engulfed by the moving earth.

Within seconds, much of the hillside has been transformed into a torrent of mud and debris.

The shocking footage comes as days of exceptionally heavy rain have caused widespread devastation across India and neighbouring Nepal, as reported by Need To Know.

At least 56 people have now died in India, while another 14 have been killed in Nepal.
Eleven people are also reported missing in Nepal.

India’s northern Uttar Pradesh state has been among the areas worst affected.

It recorded 66.5mm of rain between Friday (25 Sep) and Sunday morning – compared with just 7.6mm normally expected over the same period.

At least 46 people have also been injured and more than 1,000 homes damaged.

Rescue operations have been launched in waterlogged communities, with emergency teams distributing relief supplies.

Officials have also been ordered to assess damage to crops and arrange compensation for those affected.

Rivers have swollen following the torrential rain, increasing fears of further flooding.

India’s Central Water Commission said dozens of monitoring stations across several states were reporting severe conditions.

Major waterways including the Ganga, Gandak, Kosi, Bagmati and Narmada have risen above danger levels.

Neighbouring Nepal has also been battered by another wave of extreme weather.

Authorities there have warned of possible flash floods across 49 of the country’s 77 districts.

More than half are facing a high risk of flooding or flash flooding as rivers and tributaries continue to rise.

Power supplies have been disrupted in several districts while officials battle to restore electricity.

Flooding on the Rahuganga River has also damaged a hydropower project and transmission towers.

The latest deaths come just weeks after Nepal suffered one of the worst natural disasters in its history.

Catastrophic flooding triggered by a high-altitude glacial mountain collapse in August killed more than 1,400 people and left thousands missing.

Authorities have warned residents in areas affected by that disaster to remain alert as the latest spell of heavy rain continues.

Rescue and relief operations remain under way.
