A community was devastated after a hero firefighter dad died suddenly just days before his son’s fifth birthday.
Liam Gardiner served at Hadleigh Fire Station in Suffolk, where colleagues said his death had left them facing the hardest week they had ever endured, as reported by Need To Know.
A station spokesperson said: “This week has been the toughest week that our station has had to endure.

“We can never replace Liam, and we wouldn’t even try to.
“Liam simply was the best firefighter that we have ever seen.
“A mentor to so many, his dedication, knowledge and calm nature made him the perfect role model.
“Whilst we struggle to understand and accept what has happened, please know that every single message, bunch of flowers, and donation in Liam’s memory is appreciated.
“This week it was Liam’s son Archie’s fifth birthday, so a couple of the crew delivered presents in Buster (Archie’s name for our pump).
“We’ll continue to support Liam’s family moving forward.
“They are part of our fire family.
“This week has proved how lucky we are to not only have the support of our local community but also our wider fire community.
“Liam touched so many lives, and we will make sure that he’s never forgotten.
“CM Liam Gardiner 4679, you will never be forgotten. YNWA.”
A fundraising page set up in Liam’s memory has raised more than £20,000.
It said Liam had left behind his wife Hayley, son Archie and a family “devastated by the loss of a devoted father, loving husband, son and brother”.
It read: “For Archie, Liam wasn’t just his dad – he was his best friend, his hero, and the person who would always be by his side.
“No amount of money could ever make up for the unimaginable loss of his dad, but the money raised will help provide Archie and his family with some financial security during this incredibly difficult time.
“As Hayley and the family face the heartbreaking task of saying goodbye to Liam, your donations will help support Hayley in ensuring that Archie has the opportunities, experiences, love and support he deserves as he grows up without his dad by his side.
“Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a meaningful difference.
“Most importantly, this is about making sure Archie always knows that he is surrounded by love and support, and that his dad’s memory will live on through the many people whose lives Liam touched.
