Paramedics battled for 50 minutes to save him but could not revive the dad, who already had a stent in his heart.
His daughter escaped serious injury in the low-impact crash, but Gheorghe was apparently overcome with worry.
The couple had set off from their home in the village of Vasile Alecsandri in Galați County, Romania, after hearing about the accident.
They were heading along the DN25 near Șendreni when Gheorghe suddenly felt unwell, as reported by Need To Know.
With his last strength he managed to stop the vehicle safely on the side of the road, avoiding a second crash.
Passing ambulance drivers spotted people helping at the roadside and pulled over.
Paramedics performed CPR for nearly an hour, but Gheorghe was declared dead at the scene.
No other vehicles were involved in the fatal medical emergency.
Traffic was briefly disrupted while police managed the scene.

Gheorghe’s body was taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for a post-mortem to confirm the exact cause of death.
Friends said the family is devastated as the daughter’s minor accident pales against the loss of her father en route to offer support.
The investigation into his sudden passing is ongoing.
