The search for Jay, who disappeared ten days ago on Monday, June 17, has intensified in the mountainous regions of northern Tenerife.

Initially, efforts were concentrated on a 2,000ft ravine near the Rural de Teno park, Jay’s last known location. Recent reports from The Sun indicate that authorities have expanded their focus to a series of caves near Los Carrizales, a small hamlet close to Masca in the Teno mountains.

This new search area is approximately an hour and a half walk from the Airbnb where Jay was staying with two men, as reported by The Independent.

Despite the lack of any signs of the 19-year-old, authorities have no plans to halt the search. The Civil Guard, leading the extensive search operation, confirmed the continuation of their efforts.

A reliable source expressed doubts about Jay’s survival if he became lost in the mountains, emphasizing the challenging conditions. Specially trained sniffer dogs from Madrid have been brought in to assist, and footage has been released showing officers navigating the rough terrain on foot, complemented by aerial inspections from the Civil Guard helicopter.

The source added that while the search remains active, there is an acknowledgment that the operation may need to be scaled back if no progress is made. The decision to extend the search period underscores the commitment of the teams involved.

Jay was last seen after attending a rave that concluded early on June 17. He then headed to Masca with two British men he had met that night, sending a final Snapchat from their Airbnb at 7:30 am. By 8:50 am, he made a desperate call to his friend Lucy, stating he was lost, without water, and with only one percent battery left on his phone.

This triggered a massive search effort involving helicopters, drones, and sniffer dogs, but so far, no traces have been found.

The search has predominantly targeted the 2,000ft Masca ravine, where Jay’s phone last connected to a cell tower. The area is described by police as vast and challenging to navigate. Local resident Anita highlighted the difficulty of such searches, noting that it can take months to find any sign of missing persons in Tenerife due to the treacherous terrain.

There have been a rising number of disappearances in Tenerife, raising concerns prior to Jay’s disappearance. Amid these troubling circumstances, Jay’s mother, Debbie, has decided to utilize part of the £36,000 raised through GoFundMe donations.

She explained that the funds will support the search teams, cover the family’s extended stay in Tenerife, and bring loved ones of those supporting her to the island.

Debbie, 55, expressed her gratitude and outlined the planned use of the funds, emphasizing the need to support both the rescue efforts and the emotional well-being of those involved. The outpouring of support has been vital during these challenging times as the search for Jay continues.
