A six-year-old boy died from a cardiac arrest after a single bee sting sent him into anaphylactic shock.

Cristofer Yuri Silva de Melo was stung in the neck while in the kitchen of his granddad’s farm.

His family removed the stinger and applied alcohol to the sting site, but he began turning purplish.

They went to the local health centre, but there was no doctor or anti-allergy medication available.

The nearest hospital was about 50 km (31 miles) from the rural property in Sengés, southern Brazil.

Cristofer’s family tried to call for help, but there was no mobile phone signal on Monday (14 Oct) afternoon.

They decided to take him to the hospital themselves, and as soon as they had signal, they called for an ambulance.

When paramedics reached the family en route to the hospital, Cristofer was in cardiac arrest.

When they arrived at the facility, he was dead.

Medics spent about 40 minutes trying to revive him, but their efforts were in vain.

Reports say it took about 40 minutes for him to arrive at the hospital after the facility was told he was on his way.

His devastated mum, Tania Grazy, recalled how he was stung by around 10 bees in April.

He swelled up at the time but recovered after taking anti-allergy medication.

Despite the scare, his family had no idea he had such a severe bee sting allergy.

Monday’s medics told her he was worse off this time round because he was stung on the neck.

It’s believed the venom from the sting went straight into his bloodstream.

Cristofer was laid to rest in Sengés on Tuesday (15 Oct), as reported by Need To Know.

His mum wrote on social media: “I want to thank everyone for their support and prayers. Unfortunately, my little angel has returned to heaven.

“My little one was so joyful and so loving. He will always be in my memory this way, my little lovebug!

“Always affectionate, he loved to be cuddled. My eternal Yure.”
