A zookeeper was killed by a tiger after being mauled due to two fatal mistakes.

He bravely entered the big cats cage to feed them.

The experienced man had worked with the predators for years.

But he made two fatal mistakes which led to his death.

When the 52-year-old initially stepped inside their enclosure, one of the big cats rushed at him immediately.

He tried his best to repel the attack of the almost 200kg beast, but tragically failed.

The fight ended quickly, with the zookeeper collapsing before being torn to pieces.

His first mistake was that he did not close the gate which separated the tigers from the safe area where he was.

The animals were able to roam around in the same space as him, which made him an easy target.

As his second error, he was supposed to work alongside a colleague when feeding the tigers.

If he was not alone, a team member may have been able to prevent the attack from occurring.

The unnamed victim however sent his colleague off to do another job, leaving himself alone with the ravenous feline.

Other workers heard the man’s desperate cries and they were able to isolate the tigers and lock them up.

They then called an ambulance but it was sadly too late.

The man lost his vital functions, and sustained severe wounds to his neck and his left shoulder blade.

This incident occurred at the Pitesti Zoo, in Romania, as reported by Need To Know.

Workers at the zoo have been left shocked by his death and struggle to explain the deadly attack

The tigers were used to being around the employees, and this is the only tragedy of this kind in the history of the zoo.

On 10 December the zoo has been closed to visitors, however it will be reopened tomorrow.
