A man who bought £400 clip-in veneers has been ridiculed and compared to a horse and “Rob Beckett from Wish” after sharing a clip of his new teeth online.
Owen McConnell, 23, from Coventry, was inspired to buy the flashy gnashers after his sister Chloe flew out to Turkey to get her teeth fixed up.
The admin worker was sent some dental putty in the post, which he imprinted his teeth into in a bid to get the perfect set.
After four weeks he was sent his clip-in veneers, and tested on the fit on camera.
But Owen was left less than impressed by the budget solution.
Sharing a clip of himself on TikTok, Owen says: “Nah it’s bull**** yeah, these are my normal teeth. I waited ages and paid £400 pound for these and I’ve text and complained, they said they are going to sort it.”
Facing the camera, he shows off his own teeth before putting in the bottom row of the pearly white set.
He continues: “Bottom ones are actually sweet, nothing wrong with them.”
But it went quickly downhill after clipping in the top set of teeth – which pushes out his top lip, leaving him struggling to speak.
Mortified he says: “Are you going to tell me that these are normal?”
With his new veneers, Owen has been likened to comedian Rob Beckett and presenter Rylan Clark – who characteristically have large teeth.
“I’ve always liked my teeth so I didn’t actually want to make that much of a commitment. I thought clips ins were the way forward. I’m in such shock,” Owen told Jam Press.
“I put the bottom set in and they seemed perfect. Just what I wanted.
“Then it came to the top set, they were low hanging they looked long on my face and very fake to say the least.”
The clip went viral on TikTok, amassing 204,000 likes and three million views – with viewers divided over his new look.
One viewer said: “I’m an ex dental nurse and I can never understand why people all want to look the same. Your teeth make you unique”
Likening him to a horse, another said: “You could enter the Grand National with them.”
Others pointed out his famous doppelgängers.
“You look like Rylan’s long lost brother,” insisted one user.
Someone else wrote: “Rob Beckett is that you?”
Another viewer commented: “Rob becket from wish.”
“You literally don’t need them,” said someone else.
Of the reaction, Owen added: “Some comments are just outright savage which I ignore.
“Others are very funny, and I’ve replied to a few.
“Some are very kind messages about how my actual teeth are fine so the good outweighs the bad, for sure.
“It doesn’t bother me too much.”
Despite his initial shock, Owen has since had the veneers filed down and only takes them out when he’s eating or drinking.
He said: “They’re pretty comfortable you definitely feel them in there. You do get used to it.
“They feel pressed against your teeth but that’s what you want compared to them feeling loose.
“Eating is a no-go as you’ll damage them and for the price that’s not something I intend on doing.
“Drinking is not so bad just don’t drink excessive with them in to keep them looking fresh.”
