Furious shoppers are threatening a boycott after discovering Tesco’s Christmas Cake has been sneakily relabelled as a plain old “fruit cake”.

The retail giant has been accused of quietly scrapping the festive name from the classic Yuletide treat.

Punters only clocked the change while hunting for a traditional Christmas cake during their online food shop.

Instead, they were met with a selection of holly-iced, red-boxed sweet treats.

But none of them dared to mention ‘Christmas’

The cake – a festive staple for decades and a favourite of cooks including Mary Berry – is still packed with raisins, sultanas and glacé cherries.

The sweet treat comes in a red box featuring pine cones arranged like a Christmas tree, and the cake itself is finished with a holly design.

But the supermarket has avoided calling it what shoppers insist it is.

And the omission has sparked uproar online, with some customers vowing to ditch the supermarket altogether.

One person said: “I think we all saw this coming.”

Another shopper added: “It’s called a Christmas cake.”

One festive critic said: “Some fruitcakes made a huge mistake.”

Another said: “Already spoke with the wife we normally shop at Tesco, won’t be doing it anymore.

“I refuse to support shops that won’t support our traditions.”

But one added: “Christmas isn’t a flavour.”
