A celebrity couple’s son needed 30 stitches after being bitten by a shark while on holiday with his family.

Patricio was bitten on both legs while playing in the shallows, just a few yards from his parents.

His mother, actress Marichelo Puente, told her followers online: “My kids were at the water’s edge, and the water didn’t even reach their waists.

“Then we heard Patito screaming horribly, yelling that something had bitten him.”

Marichelo recalled seeing a “tail” disappearing into the sea in Tulum, Mexico, while one of her son’s legs had a particularly nasty wound.

At the hospital, doctors cleaned the injury and confirmed it was consistent with a reef shark bite.

“It’s unbelievable, I’m still in shock,” Marichelo said. “You never imagine something like this could happen.”

Patricio, whose father is singer Jorge D’Alessio from the group Matute, required 30 stitches.

He is now out of danger and recovering well, as reported by Need To Know.

Marichelo holds no ill feelings toward the shark.

“That shark wasn’t out to get Pato,” she said.

“It was just defending itself because it got scared, or whatever.”

Tulum, like other destinations in the Mexican Caribbean, is home to various shark species.

Most are not considered high risk for swimmers.

But Marichelo warned: “Be extremely careful. I know swimming in the sea is wonderful and so relaxing, but these things can happen – and more and more often.”

“There really are sharks near the shore.”
