Seconds later, the man stood, adjusted his trousers, and walked away.
The incident happened near Talabarkote, in India’s Odisha state, on Tuesday (17 Mar), as reported by Need To Know.
Victim Bidyadhar Behera was riding his motorbike when the elephant suddenly emerged from the forest, charging and knocking him to the ground.
Onlookers rushed to his aid before he was taken to a hospital in Dhenkanal with serious injuries to his head, hands, and legs.
He remains conscious and stable.
A herd of nearly 30 elephants is reportedly moving through the area.
Forest officials have stepped up patrols and urged locals to avoid the forest edges during early mornings and evenings.
Experts warn that shrinking habitats and crop raids are pushing elephants closer to human settlements, raising the risk of dangerous encounters.
